Ashley Mei

Artistic Director of Musical Theatre

Ashley Mei is a professional actress, classically trained pianist, and passionate arts educator born and raised in Los Angeles — growing up in both West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, with screen credits in productions by HBO, Lionsgate, and Warner Bros., and extensive training in both Meisner technique and Shakespearean performance. Her artistic journey bridges the worlds of film, theatre, and education, allowing her to bring a well-rounded, real-world perspective to her students.

Ashley’s passion for musical theatre began in childhood, performing in children’s and community productions across Southern California. Classically trained in piano and choir voice, she developed a love for musical storytelling and ensemble collaboration from an early age.

As the oldest of five children, Ashley naturally took on a mentorship role within her family — coaching her younger siblings into principal cast roles for Netflix, Universal Studios, Disney, national commercials, Off-Broadway workshops in New York’s 42nd Street, and Equity regional theatre. Through her guidance, they also became eligible for professional unions including SAG-AFTRA and the Actors’ Equity Association. This hands-on experience with young talent gave her unique insight into child development and the discipline required for professional youth performers.

In addition to her work as a performer and educator, Ashley has served as an executive assistant to three Los Angeles-based theatre directors, gaining experience in operations, casting, and production management. Since 2012, she has shadowed and assistant-taught under Broadway and Hollywood veterans, further refining her teaching methods and leadership style.

As Artistic Director of Musical Theatre at The Grand Academy of Ballet, Ashley directs and produces youth musicals while developing original curriculum that emphasizes confidence, professionalism, and ensemble artistry. She is deeply committed to making theatre a transformative experience for her students — one that not only trains performers, but nurtures young people to be thoughtful, collaborative, and resilient.
